Eeect of Noise Reduction Using Rough Set Theory on the Accuracy of Knn Classiication of Radiological Reports

Access to the clinical information content of free text is one of the major challenges facing medical informatics today. In this study we address the problems of automatic classi cation of chest radiograph reports. For a number of independent categories we assess the e ectiveness of a K{NN classi er, and the improvement gained by prior attribute reduction using a technique grounded in rough set theory. The results suggest that noise reduction using rough set theory can improve the accuracy of K{NN classi cation for some classi cation categories.
